The agencies listed below are the major transit providers in the San Francisco Bay Area.
511 Transit
AC Transit (Local Service)
The Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District, better known as AC Transit, serves more than 100 local lines within the East Bay and more than 35 TransBay lines to San Francisco and the Peninsula. AC Transit connects with 21 BART stations. It is the third largest all-bus system in California.
AC Transit (Transbay service)
AC Transit's newest TransBay Line M, connects central Alameda County communities with San Mateo County via the Hayward/San Mateo Bridge.
ACE - Altamont Commuter Express
The Altamont Commuter Express (ACE) is a new commuter train service providing two morning and two afternoon trains traveling between Stockton and San Jose, with additional stops in Lathrop/Manteca, Tracy, Livermore, Pleasanton, Fremont and Santa Clara.
AirBART
Air-BART is a direct shuttle between the Oakland Airport and the Oakland Coliseum/Aiport BART station. Air-BART operates approximately every ten minutes and travel time is approximately 15-30 minutes. Ticket machines are located in Terminals 1 and 2 in the airport and at the Coliseum BART station.
Alameda Harbor Bay Ferry
Ferry service from the Harbor Bay Isle Ferry Landing located at the end of Harbor Bay Parkway on Bay Farm Island (City of Alameda) to the San Francisco Ferry Building. Travel time is approximately 25 minutes.
Alameda/Oakland Ferry
Ferry service between Alameda Main Street - Jack London Square, Oakland - San Francisco Ferry Bldg. - San Francisco Pier 39 (Fishermans' Wharf) - Angel Island State Park.
American Canyon Transit
A transit agency operating in the City of American Canyon in Napa County. ACT bus service begins and ends at the Safeway at State Highway 29 and American Canyon Road. Service begins at 7:30 am and ends at 5:30 pm, Monday through Friday. No service is provided on Saturdays, Sundays or holidays.
Amtrak - Capitol Corridor & Regional Services
Amtrak California, a partnership between Amtrak and Caltrans, provides intercity rail and bus service within California. The Capitol Corridor route provides daily round trips between San Jose, Oakland, and Sacramento. Intermediate stations are Santa Clara, Fremont, Emeryville, Berkeley, Richmond (BART), Martinez, Suisun/Fairfield, and Davis.
Angel Island/Tiburon Ferry
Ferry service between Tiburon and Angel Island State Park.
BART
BART operates rail service connecting San Francisco International Airport to San Francisco and the East Bay.
Benicia Breeze
Provides local service in the City of Benicia with connecting service to Vallejo, Pleasant Hill BART, and Sun Valley Mall.
Blue & Gold Fleet
Service between San Francisco and locations around the bay for both commute and pleasure trips. Blue & Gold Fleet also operates the Alameda/Oakland Ferry and the Vallejo Baylink Ferry.
Caltrain
Provides commuter rail service between San Francisco and Gilroy via San Jose, with Amtrak providing continuing bus service to Santa Cruz.
Cloverdale Transit
For transportation needs within the City, Cloverdale Transit provides fixed-route and demand response service in the city of Cloverdale. There are also convenient connections to Sonoma County Transit for bus service to other cities in Sonoma County.
County Connection
The County Connection (Central Contra Costa Transit Authority, or CCCTA) provides transit service within central Contra Costa County with connections to Pleasanton and Antioch. The County Connection serves Clayton, Concord, Danville, Lafayette, Martinez, Moraga, Orinda, Pleasant Hill, San Ramon, Walnut Creek, and unincorporated areas of central county. Formed in 1980, the County Connection has grown from a fleet of 12 small buses to 131 ramp/wheelchair lift-equipped buses today.
Dumbarton Express
Weekday express bus service across the Dumbarton Bridge, connecting Union City (BART), Fremont, Newark, Menlo Park and Palo Alto. Dumbarton Express service is provided through a consortium of AC Transit, BART, Union City Transit and Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority.
Emery Go-Round
A Free shuttle connecting Emeryville's employers and shopping centers with the MacArthur BART station. Service is provided on weekdays from 5:50 am until 9:50 pm. On Saturdays, the Shopper Express runs from 9:15 am until 9:00 pm and the City Loop runs from 10:00 am until 5:30 pm. On Sundays the Shopper Express runs from 10:15 am until 7:30 pm. The Emery Go-Round is funded by commercial property owners in the citywide Emeryville Property Improvement District and is a service of the Emeryville Transportation Management Association.
Fairfield and Suisun Transit (FAST)
Provides local transit service in the Solano County cities of Fairfield (which consists of the Travis Airforce Base and the Cordelia Village Area) and Suisun. Fairfield and Suisun Transit (FAST) also operates routes that connect Fairfield to the outlying cities of Vacaville, Davis, and Pleasant Hill.
Golden Gate Ferry
Golden Gate Ferry provides daily ferry service between Larkspur or Sausalito (Marin County) and San Francisco.
Golden Gate Transit
Golden Gate Transit provides daily bus service within Marin, Sonoma, San Francisco and Contra Costa counties. Golden Gate Ferry provides daily ferry service between Larkspur or Sausalito (Marin County) and San Francisco.
Healdsburg In-City Transit
Provides fixed-route service in the city of Healdsburg (Sonoma County). Connections to Sonoma County Transit for intercity trips.
Hornblower Ferry
Marin Commute Club
Provides regularly scheduled service from Marin and Sonoma counties to UCSF.
Menlo Park Midday Shuttle
The Menlo Park Midday Shuttle is a free service connecting points in Menlo Park, the Menlo Park Caltrain Station, Stanford Shopping Center, and Stanford Medical Center.
Muni (SF)
The San Francisco Municipal Railway (Muni) provides public transit within San Francisco, California. Its buses, electric trolleys, streetcars and cable cars transport nearly three-fourths of a million passengers every weekday.
Petaluma Transit
Provides local service in the City of Petaluma with connections to Sonoma County Transit for intercity trips.
Presidio Shuttle
The FREE PresidiGo shuttle serves visitor areas, work places, and homes within this national park site. Popular destinations include Baker Beach, Crissy Field, Fort Point, and the historic Officers' Club. The shuttle connects with regional public transit such as MUNI and Golden Gate Transit at several convenient locations. PresidiGo operates seven days a week. The Blue Route is a long route providing access to all Presidio destinations. The Orange Route is a short route connecting the Lombard Gate to visitor destinations on the Main Post (Visitor Center, Golden Gate Club, YMCA, Bowling Center, Officers' Club).
Rio Vista Delta Breeze
samTrans
San Mateo County Transit District provides SamTrans bus service throughout San Mateo County and into parts of San Francisco and Palo Alto. The transit district also offers Redi-Wheels paratransit service for persons with disabilities who are unable to ride SamTrans.
San Leandro Links (shuttle)
Recognizing the need for efficient and environmentally friendly public transportation, the City of San Leandro created the San Leandro Links shuttle program, a free service that links San Leandro BART with West San Leandro employment centers.
Santa Clara VTA
VTA provides service throughout Santa Clara County and partners with other systems for bus and rail service between Santa Clara County and the counties of Alameda, Santa Cruz, San Mateo and San Francisco. VTA's 520+ vehicle bus fleet serves a 326 square mile urbanized area. The 28.6-mile light rail system is operated with a fleet of 50 cars.
Santa Rosa CityBus
CityBusoperates sixteen regular routes, primarily within the City of Santa Rosa, to a population of approximately 160,869. Hours of operation are 6:00 a.m. to 8:25 p.m. Monday through Friday; 6:00 a.m. to 8:15 p.m. on Saturday; and 10:00 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. on Sunday.
Sonoma County Transit
Provides intercity service in Sonoma County and local service in Rohnert Park, Cotati, Guerneville, Sebastopol and Windsor.
St. Helena VINE
Provides local service in the City of St. Helena and to Deer Park at St. Helena Hospital. Connections to VINE at St. Helena City Hall (northbound side) and Main at Pope Streets (southbound side) in downtown St. Helena, and to Lake Transit at St. Helena Hospital.

Tri Delta Transit
Tri Delta Transit provides over 2,500,000 trips each year to a population of nearly 230,000 residents in the 225 square miles of Eastern Contra Costa County. Tri Delta Transit operates 11 local bus routes Monday-Friday, 3 local bus routes on weekends, commuter routes, a door-to-door bus service for senior citizens and disabled individuals, a 49ers sports service to home games at Candlestick Park, and numerous shuttle services for community events.
Union City Transit
Union City Transit is Union City's own bus system operating within the city limits. Routes are coordinated with BART trains, AC Transit, and the Dumbarton Express to areas outside of the City. Main transfer points are at the Union City BART station and Alvarado & Dyer.
Vacaville City Coach
Provides local fixed-route service and Dial-a-ride paratransit service in the City of Vacaville (Solano County).
Vallejo Baylink Ferry
The Vallejo Baylink Ferry, operated by Vallejo Transit, provides service between San Francisco and Vallejo with connecting service to Six Flags Marine World.
Vallejo Transit
Vallejo Transit provides local fixed-route service in the City of Vallejo as well as intercity routes connecting Vallejo with Vacaville, Suisun, Fairfield, and the El Cerrito del Norte BART station.
Valley of the Moon Commute Club
A member-run commute club offering bus service from the Sonoma Valley into San Francisco.
VINE (Napa County)
The VINE is the Napa County region's fixed-route bus service, operating seven days a week, that provides safe, affordable, convenient travel to residents and visitors alike.
West Berkeley Shuttle
West Berkeley Shuttle (WBS) connects the Ashby BART Station with West Berkeley employment centers. Operating Monday through Friday during peak commute hours, WBS provides residents and workers of West Berkeley with a new choice in transit. WBS shuttles are powered with compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles and produce near-zero air pollution.
West Marin Stagecoach
The West Marin Stagecoach is a two-year demonstration service created by Marin County that aims to increase access for seniors, youths, and others to medical, civic, educational, work, and shopping sites throughout the County. It provides local weekday service between towns on Marin County's Pacific Coast and cities along San Francisco Bay. The South Route connects Marin City with Muir Beach, Stinson Beach and Bolinas. The North Route connects San Anselmo with Woodacre, Lagunitas, Pt. Reyes Station and Inverness.
WestCAT
WestCAT is a service of the Western Contra Costa Transit Authority providing local, regional and express public transportation service. WestCAT offers ten local fixed routes, operates express bus service in the I-80 corridor between the Hercules Transit Center and the El Cerrito del Norte BART Station, offers curb-to-curb Dial-A-Ride paratransit throughout the WestCAT service area, regional Martinez Link (30Z) service between EL Cerrito del Norte BART and Martinez (the County Seat), and Special Transportation for seniors/disabled passengers M-F traveling into Richmond and San Pablo areas.
Transit connections with AC Transit, BART, County Connection, Golden Gate Transit, and Vallejo Transit.
WHEELS
WHEELS operates sixteen local routes serving Dublin, Pleasanton and Livermore. Express connections between Livermore and Dublin/Pleasanton BART are available.
Express Bus service to Silicon Valley and between Walnut Creek and the Tri-Valley area is also available during commute hours.
Yountville Shuttle
The Yountville Shuttle provides local fixed-route service in the Town of Yountville (Napa County). The same bus will also go off the route to provide door-to-door service throught the community including the Veterans Home of California. Door-to-door service fares are higher than fixed-route fares. Connections to VINE can be made at Veterans Home and on Washington Street in downtown Yountville.
