Clipper – The Bay Area’s all-in-one, reloadable transit card
Clipper is currently accepted on Muni, BART, AC Transit, VTA, SamTrans, Caltrain and Golden Gate Transit and Ferry,
and will eventually be accepted on all forms of Bay Area public transit. For information on using Clipper, please visit
A Clipper card can hold passes, discounted tickets, ride books and cash value.
Any ticket or pass that you load onto a Clipper card has the same rules and functionality
as a paper version. Any cash value that you load works the same as cash, and can be used
to pay your fare on every Clipper-participating transit system. Plus Clipper automatically
applies all appropriate transfers and discounts and keeps track of your cash balance.
You can get a card or add value online at clippercard.com, over the phone by calling 877.878.8883,
at dozens of retail locations including Walgreens, and at transit ticket offices. You can even set
your Clipper card up for Autoload at clippercard.com, so that your card will automatically load
cash or a monthly pass when your balance is low, or your pass expires. And if you ever lose your
registered Clipper card, your card can be replaced and your balance restored, for a small fee.
To use Clipper, tag the Clipper card by touching it to the card readers located in transit stations or
vehicles, and Clipper will automatically acknowledge the pass or deduct the correct fare, including
any appropriate discounts and transfers.
