What is an announcement?
Announcements are notices related to transit services issued by transit service providers.
These service notices are issued primarily to notify transit riders of any changes in service.
For example, certain routes may be rerouted through due to a street closure for maintenance or
social. In most cases, these kinds of service changes are very temporary in nature and cannot
be accommodated within the structured, published regular schedules.
What is an important announcement?
Announcements have three different levels: transit route level, transit provider level,
or regional level. A delay in BART service may impact the entire region. A fare change may
affect the entire service of a transit provider, whereas, a detour may affect one or multiple
routes. Any announcement from route, provider, or region level can be classified as emergency
announcement. Regional and emergency non-regional announcements are grouped as important
announcements.
How can announcements be viewed in the website?
Announcements can be viewed in three different ways within this website:
- Announcements can either be listed or searched through the main
navigation item called "Announcement." Users can search announcements
by the transit service provider, by a region, or by entering a text.
For example, searching for the word "Broadway" may display all
announcements with word Broadway in it.
- Announcements related to a specific 511 TakeTransitSM
itinerary can be viewed through the links provided on the itinerary
results page. When announcements are posted with itineraries, users
should review them carefully because they may affect a particular
leg of the itinerary.
- Route related announcements are also available through a link
from the route schedules page.
What is a popular destination?
Popular destinations are a selected set of landmarks in the Bay Area.
Popular destinations are those locations that attract a large amount
of visitors. Reason for filtering these locations out of the larger set
of landmarks is to provide additional functionality for users to make
trips to and from these locations and provide additional information
about them. Suggestions for additional popular destinations are welcome.
Please use the suggestions link to suggest
additional popular destinations. Attractive photographs of popular
destinations may also be forwarded for posting. If selected, photographs
will be posted with appropriate credit.
